We have always thought our popular Easter Bank Holiday funfair at Hampton Court Palace was exciting and fun, but this year we have added one on the great event traditions to our presentation, the wonderful Punch and Judy Show. For those of us of a certain age it is hard to think that there are lots of young people who have never seen this entertainment tradition live and on stage. After all, Punch and Judy Shows date back to the 16th-century Italian commedia dell’arte shows, but particularly popular in Victorian Fairs and festivals.
Judy was originally named Joan and we are not sure why this was changed, but someone in the past 400 years thought it was a good idea and so it stuck. So who are we to challenge this?
We will be staging 5 performances daily, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6pm each day, every day from April 22nd to 26th so this is just one more reason, if you needed one, to visit Hampton Court’s Historic Fair this Easter. These shows are free of charge to all our visitors.
Check out our forthcoming events pages on the website for full details of this popular festival in one of London’s most beautiful and historic locations.
