Irvin Leisure Proud to Support Fairtrade Fortnight with a great Photo too!

“Before you’ve finished your breakfast this morning you will have relied on half the world” – Martin Luther King.

An interesting thought, and a depressing one when you realise that those people on whom you have relied for your coffee and cornflakes are almost certainly being exploited and oppressed by the unfair power balance in world trade.

But what can you do? Surely it is beyond your control? Wrong, you can buy Fair Trade products and that is why Irvin Leisure were proud to support Fairtrade Fortnight.

We were proud to provide some superb attractions to support the Fairtrade Fortnight launched in Coin Street in London’s South Bank on Sunday 24th February. This annual event is aimed to educate the public into the principal of supporting Fairtrade suppliers, and was boosted this year by the addition of Tale and Lyle to this list.

In fact Tate and Lyle branded the popular Irvin Leisure Candy Floss stall which spent the day feeding the 8000 strong crowd with Fair Trade Candy Floss.

Fair Trade is a growing international movement which ensures that producers in poor countries get a fair deal. This means a fair price for their products (one that covers the cost of production and guarantees a living income), long term contracts which provide real security and for many support to gain the knowledge and skills that they need to develop their businesses and increase sales.

The Fair Trade movement has been one of the most powerful responses to the problems facing commodity producers and gives consumers an opportunity to use their purchasing power to tilt the balance, however slightly, in favour of the poor. More retailers than ever are stocking up on Fair Trade goods and the number of products on offer continues to grow as demand increases, and more poor communities are feeling the benefits. By the way, the photo shows our Food Unit as branded by Tate and Lyle for this event to celebrate their commitment to becoming a Fair Trade Supplier. We regret to inform you that whilst  the photo also shows Samantha Mumba who was there supporting the festival, Ms Mumba is not supplied by us when we hire out this popular food stall! Just the candyfloss.
