Weather does not detract from wonderful Canada Day celebrations.

You may have noticed it is slightly damp at present, but nothing dampened the enthusiasm of the crowds enjoying wonderful Canada Day in the heart of London, indeed in Trafalgar Square. Here is what the organisers, Rainmaker, said about it, and can we just say they not only organise a great event but their company name would indicate that they are personally responsible for this soaking summer!

On behalf of Rainmaker I would like to say thank you for Irvine Leisure’s support of the 7th annual Canada Day in London celebration.  This year attracted record numbers of just under 100,000 visitors through Trafalgar Square to experience a fantastic line up of Canadian music, hockey, art, culture, food and drink.  Having been surrounded by all things Canadian in the heart of central London, the 145th birthday of Canada in Trafalgar Square was our biggest and most successful celebration yet.

We have received positive feedback from many who attended and look forward to building on the success of this year as we begin our planning for 2013.  Once again we received significant press coverage both in Canada and the UK. The event was covered by Time Out, The Huffington Post, Canada Post, The Canadian Olympic Committee, Global News, CTV as well as numerous other local papers, community blogs and corporate websites.  The highlights shown to over 1 million viewers on CTV’s July 3rd episode of Etalk can be downloaded from – Canada Day 2012 Etalk Coverage

This year the Canada Day in London website received over 66,000 site visits and 214,000 page views, up over 25% from last year. Our social media engagement significantly increased through regular updates focusing on audience interaction and multiple contests. Followers grew from 2,400 to 3,666 in just three months. We are currently working on a promotional video of the day with CTV which will be completed in the coming months and we are also working on a more extensive event report which will be finished by the end of August including a wider selection of photos from the day.

We are proud to say that Canada Day in London is the largest Canada Day celebration outside of the country and is now definitely one of the highlights of London’s summer calendar.  This celebration showcases the depth of the relationship between Canada and the UK and highlights what our country has to offer in the heart of central London, a vital market for Canada.  With a growing community of almost 500,000 Canadians in the UK we look forward to our 8th annual celebration next year as Canada turns 146 years old.  Meanwhile we are also looking at expanding the event to other major centres including Paris and New York.

Thank you again for all of your support and we will be in touch soon regarding the plans for next year.

Have a great summer.

Kind Regards,

Lindsay Nester
