May Fun in Chiswick on Turnham Green

From: May 8th, 2008
To: May 12th, 2008
Great news, it has stopped raining and so this popular fair can now go ahead on the dates we always planned! So this coming week join us for all the fun of the fair in Chiswick.
Turnham Green Fair dates back to the middle of the 19th Century when the wealthy Londoners (Londoners had money then) used to take the stage coach to the races at Epsom, and Turnham Green was a staging post. Funfair operators, as upstanding sitizens committed to stamping out gambling, used to try and dissuade them from this risky betting by persuading them to spend all their cash at the newly created funfair on this lovely Green. Nowadays local people get great value for money at this popular annual west London Fair.
Special price all day on Thursday, Friday and Monday, all rides only £1 if you purchase a wristband for just one quid!
Historic Town Lane Recreation Ground in Stanwell

From: May 16th, 2008
To: May 18th, 2008
For over 100 years George Irvin's Fairs have visited Stanwell, and this year we are visiting in May by popular demand!
This fair can trace it's history back well over 100 years and the photo shows George Irvin's Carousel in Stanwell in 1903. There will be a superb Victorian Style Carousel this year plus lots for children to do, and some thrill attractions for the brave amongst us.
All times and further details to follow, but if you live in Staines or the area of Spelthorne put this in your diary now and make sure you come along.
Special price day on Friday 16th, where you can buy a wristband for just £1 and then go on all the rides for only £1! What a bargain, cheaper than in 1902! Almost.

Come in costume and win a prize, see the fabulous collection of historic planes and flying machines, and have a great day out. See our news stories for more news, but above all come and join us at this festival of flight.
The event opens at 10 a.m. and runs to 5 p.m. on both days. There will be working First World War planes and the chance to meet the pilors who flew them (or people dressed like the pilots who flew them) Also do not forget to look at the Battle of Britain displays in the hangers and also information on the first space flights. I dare you to say that you would have had the courage, or the madness, to fly those early aircraft. I certainly would not!
